Наукові записки Тернопільського національного педагогічного університету імені Володимира ГнатюкаThe rapid development of agricultural sector is becoming the main factor leading to continuously increasing of specific pollution of surface water. The aim of this study was to assess the selected parameters of oxidative stress in zebrafish (Danio rerio) after their exposure to environmental realistic concentrations of roundup and chlorpyrifos during 14 days. Our results confirm that roundup and chlorpyrifos in the environmentally relevant concentrations promote oxidative stress in zebrafish liver. In particular, roundup in subchronic concentration increased glutathione level, glutathione reductase and catalase activities, but didn’t provoke reactive oxygen species overflow. However, no significant changes were registered when fish were treated with roundup in higher studied concentration (500 ?g L?1). On the other hand, chlorpyrifos caused clear oxidative damage was registered as an increase in reactive oxygen species and protein carbonyls in parallel with prominent oppression of catalase activity. In general, therefore, it seems that chlorpyrifos is more toxic to zebrafish than roundup based on calculation of the integrate biomarker index. The toxicity of studied pesticides could be ranked as chlorpyrifos (0.1 ?g L?1) ? chlorpyrifos (3.0 ?g L?1) > roundup (500 ?g L?1) > roundup (15 ?g L?1). In sum, constantly growing agrochemical pollution might be of great concern and definitely can affect biodiversity in natural environment. The catalase activity and protein carbonyls concentration in zebrafish were identified as useful biomarkers of oxidative stress that warrants their application in the field investigations.
